Course Overview
The course aim is to improve your bridge in each of the three key areas, bidding, defence and play of the cards. The course assumes that you are familiar with the standard opening bids, first response, opener's rebid overcalls and takeout double, but would like to become more confident in using them:
Emphasis will be on card play and defence, plus getting to better contracts, especially on ways of getting to 3NT rather than 3/4/5 of a minor!
Each week there will be hands to play that give you the opportunity to practice the concepts that have been discussed, plus revision of Acol bidding.
The overall aim of the course, now in its sixth year, is to provide opportunity to experience a wide variety of bridge situations, as a bidder, declarer, or defender; and learn how to handle them.
Teaching Format
The emphasis is on improving your bridge by playing specially prepared hands that bring out particular aspects of bidding, declarer play and defence, and sometimes all three.
The hands played will be available, with a commentary, as a download in pdf format.
The course will be given by Phil Cooke, an experienced lecturer and tutor, and a full member of The English Bridge Union Teachers Association.
