Beyond Basic Acol

These tutorials are offered, to groups of 4 or more when requested or when there is sufficient demand for a particular topic.

Whilst Standard English Acol is sufficient for most social players, for continuing partnerships, or anyone wanting to play in a bridge club there is more to learn. And why would you want to play in a club?. Well if if you want to play bridge competitively duplicate is the way to go. Over an evening how well you do is based on a comparison with others who played with exactly the same cards!

When you play duplicate, and especially when you play with computer dealt hands, you will find that the basic Acol bids are not able to cope with all the different hands that you are dealt. By learning some new conventions experienced players are better able to describe their hand, and take advantage of hands with special features e.g. two 5 card suits.

These tutorials will help you to add new conventions to your bidding repertoire. The tutorials are also suitable for anyone already playing in a bridge club who wants to understand some new conventions.

Format

Most tutorials start with carefully designed slides to explain the concept. This is followed by studying some illustrative hands and concludes with playing prepared hands that reinforce the concept.

There are handouts that summarise the topic and details of the hands played will be available in an electronic format to enable further study.

If you are interested in arranging a tutorial on any of the topics below, even something different, please send an email or call Phil Cooke on 01225 310232
