About half the hands you are dealt should be unbalanced and about 8% of these hands will have two five card suits.

When you have two long suits you have a lot of playing strength and pre-emptive power. They are ideal hands for getting into the bidding, especially if you can tell partner what you have. A two suited overcall is what you need. The most traditional of the family is the Unusual No Trump where a 2NT overcall says, “partner I have two long minors, at least 55”. The next most popular is called Michael's where 1♣ 2♣ says that you have both majors 55. There are others too.
